The present study was aimed to find out the effect of multiple dose (7 days) treatment of amiodarone, an antiarrhythmic drug on the hypoglycaemic activity of pioglitazone and nateglinide in normal rabbits. The study was intended to determine the pharmacodynamic parameters of drug interaction between pioglitazone, nateglinide and amiodarone in normal rabbits. The experiment was conducted in four stages. Six normal rabbits were selected for each stage of experiment. These studies were conducted in the same group of rabbits after the washout period of the administered drug (Pioglitazone 45 mg/Kg body weight, Nateglinide 370 mg/kg body weight, and Amiodarone 100mg/Kg body weight) i.e. after the complete elimination of the drug. The drugs were administered orally. The blood samples were collected by marginal ear vein at predetermined time intervals and glucose levels were estimated using GOD/POD method. The results indicated that multiple dose treatment of amiodarone an antiarrhythmic drug altered the hypoglycaemic activity of pioglitazone and nateglinide when administered alone and along with pioglitazone and nateglinide in normal rabbits. This may be due to the pharmacokinetic interaction of amiodarone with pioglitazone and nateglinide. The preliminary studies indicate the combination may be unsafe in diabetes associated with arrhythmia.Keywords

Background: Although many studies have compared circulating IL-6 and CRP concentrations in periodontal patients and controls, a limited number of studies have compared systemic inflammatory markers at baseline and follow-up and also Data on whether periodontal therapy affects serum CRP levels are inconclusive. Aims and Objective: By the virtue of this study, an attempt was made to evaluate and compare the effect of non surgical periodontal therapy on serum C-Reactive Protein levels in Generalized chronic periodontitis patients. Material and Method: A total of thirty patients with Generalised chronic periodontitis, within the age range of 30-70 years, were selected and underwent non surgical periodontal therapy. Further, they were put on a two month follow up after post operative phase for evaluation and comparison of pre and post values. Results and Conclusion: The results of our study showed that non surgical periodontal therapy significantly reduces the serum levels of C-reactive protein along with other clinical parameters in patients with generalised chronic periodontitis.Keywords

The present study was carried out to investigate the analgesic activity of the prepared formulation 50mg/kg and 200mg/kg body weight in the form of gel on albino rats by Tail immersion method. The different dose level of prepared gel was applied to the rat according to the body weight to the tail which is marked at 5cm and was subjected to analgesic activity. The significance analgesic activity is observed after 1/2 hr of the application which was compared with standard dichlofenac gel, the activity decreased after 2 hr of the application. The gel was prepared from the isolated constituents of syzygium cuminii (L) skeel ischolar_main extract. The aim of the work is to prepare such a formulation which is having natural analgesic activity. The expected result from the formulation was obtained for first time. The further work is going on in our laboratory.

Objective: To analyse the extent of utilization of Information and Communication Technology tools (ICTs) by agricultural extension functionaries.
Methods and Statistical Analysis: Eighty agricultural officers and assistant agricultural officers from 43 Raitha Samparka Kendras (RSKs) in four Southern districts of Karnataka were interviewed during 2016-2017. A pre-tested interview schedule was used to collect the information on the extent of utilization of ICT tools by the respondents for seeking and dissemination of agricultural information. The collected data was analysed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis. Ex-post-facto research method was employed in the study.
Findings: Majority of the agricultural extension functionaries (70.00%) were belonging to medium to high category of extent of utilization of ICT tools. All the agricultural extension functionaries were ‘Very frequently ‘using smart phone, while a majority of the agricultural extension functionaries were using ‘Very frequently’ landline phone (88.75%), desktop computer (68.75%) and laptops (57.50%). The software/apps used ‘Very frequently’ by majority of the extension functionaries were SMS (98.75%), WhatsApp (65.00%) and Ms Word (65.00%). A larger number of agricultural extension functionaries were ‘Very frequently’ using Google Chrome (43.75%) and Yahoo (40.00%) search engines for seeking and disseminating agricultural information to the farming community. All the 14 personal, socio-economic, psychological and communication characteristic of agricultural extension functionaries selected for the study have contributed to the tune of 74.50 per cent of variation in the extent of utilization of ICT tools.
Applications/Improvements: Periodic training needs to be conducted by the Karnataka State Department of Agriculture (KSDA) to the agricultural extension functionaries working in RSKs for increasing their knowledge and upgrading skill for effective utilization and maintenance of ICT tools and sufficient budget should also be provided by the KSDA for the purchase and maintenance of ICT tools at RSKs.
